Plus, an infographic on the increasing role of technology in manufacturing

As you know, productivity is essential for a manufacturer to be successful.

The marketplace demands manufacturers invest in their processes and products.

Historically, of course, manufacturers have been ambitious to capitalize on new methods and in the evolution of technology.

It all started with the Industrial Revolution. That was the transition to manufacturing processes in Europe starting around 1760 to about 1840.

Of course, the movement spread to the United States.

Society changed dramatically with the inventions of the steam engine for locomotives and steamships, electric generators and motors, the light bulb, telegraph and the internal-combustion engine.

Improvements in the latter were accelerated by Henry Ford in 1913 when he launched the first moving assembly line for mass production of his cars.

In essence – since the steam engine – there have been two other revolutions: Science and digital technology.
