It’s a tool to help you develop a zero-trust security model to prevent unauthorized access.
This is also beneficial and timely for the private sector and nonprofit organizations that have increasing numbers of telecommuting employees in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our assessment tool will help orgs assess readiness across identities, devices, apps, infrastructure, network and data, and then provide go-dos and deployment guidance to help them reach key milestones,” said Nupur Goyal, Microsoft’s senior product marketing manager, in published reports.
Guiding principle
The concept behind the zero-trust model is “never trust, always verify.”
The model doesn’t allow risks. It assumes each access request is a potential breach.
Before access is allowed, every request is authenticated and examined for security.
“It adapts to the complexity of the modern environment, embraces the mobile workforce, and protects people, devices, applications, and data wherever they are located,” according to Microsoft.
With COVID-19 creating havoc around the world, the release of the tool is timely. The tech giant maintains companies are at different stages at becoming secure.
Microsoft says its tool will help them analyze their situations – identities, devices, apps, infrastructure, network and data – and what they must do to attain maximum security.
