Our common welfare must come first
Nonetheless, employers have an obligation to take steps for their business continuity and can justify protecting their workplaces with rules for their employees in nonworking hours.
To be sure, we’ve all had enough of the COVID-19 pandemic, so employers continue limit the spread of the coronavirus in their workplaces.
As the pandemic seems unending, it’s not enough to mandate rules in the workplace. You can require employees to follow coronavirus avoidance-policies in their off-duty hours.
In fact, employers have been legally terminating workers if they ignore workplace infection-prevention safeguards in their nonworking hours.
Indeed, if they post social media images and videos showing they don’t take the necessary precautions, that’s enough proof to take strong action.
Restricting travel
In some states, you can insist employees avoid personal travel away from home. They’d be less likely to contract the coronavirus and spread the infection at work.
Such rules must be universal among your employees, and your policy must detail your justification for a travel ban.
Again, check the law in your state.

But you can prevent employees from returning to work until they self-isolate according to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control.

Other than necessities like grocery shopping, you can also require employees to avoid crowds of more than six people and to practice social-distancing.
